NIH Loan Repayment Programs

NIH Loan Repayment Programs are a vital component of our nation's efforts to attract health professionals to careers in clinical, pediatric, health disparity, or contraceptive and infertility research.

In exchange for a two or three-year (for Intramural General Research) commitment to your research career, NIH will repay up to $35,000 per year of your qualified educational debt. In addition, the NIH will make corresponding Federal tax payments for credit to your Internal Revenue Service tax account at the rate of 39% of each loan repayment to cover your increased Federal taxes. The NIH may also reimburse any increased state or local taxes and/or additional increased Federal taxes (where the Federal tax payments were not sufficient to fully cover your increased Federal taxes) that you incur as a result of your LRP benefits.

National Institute for Native Leadership in Higher Education

NINLHE's major program initiative is an Annual Institute held each summer. Through the Annual Institute, NINLHE brings together education professionals from universities, colleges, tribal colleges, and tribal education programs who:

  • Are directly involved with Native American students in both academic and student affairs or are interested in supporting and sustaining such programs
  • Either work with Native American student programs that already have established records of success, or have the desire to do so
  • Are devoted to strengthening students' cultural and spiritual identities as an integral part of their educational experience
  • Can roll up their sleeves and get work done
  • Are "movers and shakers" or have the desire to be
  • Have a good sense of humor and work well in groups
  • Are not harmfully involved with alcohol or other drugs
The Annual Institute provides college, university and tribal education professionals with opportunities for professional empowerment, networking and personal and spiritual renewal. In an atmosphere of collaboration, friendship, and fun, participants are involved in small, hands-on training sessions in skills areas vital to Native student success. Training topics have included leadership development, academic and financial aid advisement, alcohol abuse prevention and intervention, program planning and evaluation, fundraising, and cultivating foundation and corporate relations. http://ninlhe.unm.edu/institute.htm

The PhD Project

The PhD Project began its mission in 1994 to increase the diversity of business school faculty by attracting African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and Native Americans to business doctoral programs, and providing a network of peer support throughout the programs.

We are not a doctoral program, but rather an information clearinghouse for underrepresented minorities who are interested in pursuing a business Ph.D. to become a business school professor. Think of us as your "Ph.D.guidance counselor."
