AT&T Native American Political Leadership Program at The George Washington University - FULL SCHOLARSHIP

The Native American Political Leadership Program (NAPLP) is a FULL SCHOLARSHIP program for Native American, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. NAPLP brings students from all over the country together to study at The George Washington University's Semester in Washington Politics Program in Washington, DC in the spring semester each year. Students learn how public policy decisions are made, how power is wielded, how government is run, and how those processes are influenced. The program includes a minimum of six credit hours of college-level coursework in applied politics, hands-on professional internships, guidance and assistance from personal mentors, and interaction with Washington's political and policy decision-makers and leaders in the Native american political community. Scholarships include tuition for six academic credits, on-campus housing, transportation to and from Washington, books, and other incidental expenses. Spring term begins in January and runs into early May.

Scholarships for Native Peoples from the U.S. and Canada

The Native American Scholarships Fund is an endowment established to foster a sense of shared purpose and positive interaction between archaeologists and Native Americans. The Native American Scholarships Fund is an endowment established to foster a sense of shared purpose and positive interaction between archaeologists and Native Americans. Scholarships are open to all Native peoples from anywhere in the Americas, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Indigenous Pacific Islanders.

Since 1998, the SAA has used the endowment income to award the annual Arthur C. Parker Scholarship in support of archaeological training for Native Americans who are students or employees of tribal, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian cultural preservation programs. National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships for Archaeological Training for Native Americans and Native Hawaiians are also awarded through the Native American Scholarships Committee. In 2009, the SAA added two new awards in support of undergraduate and graduate archaeology education.

Support for these scholarships comes in several ways: through individual donations, an annual silent auction at the SAA meetings, book royalties, and grants. For questions about the applications process or to make a donation, please contact the Committee Chair.

Morris K. Udall Undergraduate Scholarship: The Udall Foundation awards scholarships of up to $5,000 to Native American and Alaska Native college sophomores and juniors who have demonstrated outstanding potential and a commitment to careers related to tribal public policy or health care.

Tribal policy includes fields related to tribal sovereignty, tribal governance, tribal law, Native American education, Native American justice, natural resource management, cultural preservation and revitalization, Native American economic development, and other areas affecting Native American communities. The Foundation also awards scholarships to Native and non-Native college sophomores and juniors who have demonstrated outstanding potential and a commitment to pursuing careers related to the environment.

Up to 80 scholarships are awarded annually. The Foundation will also award up to 50 Honorable Mentions of $350.
