"Thank you so much for your support over the years.  From being named one of the All American Indian High School Academic Team to my recent scholarship award, I appreciate all that you have done.  AIGC has really contributed to my success in becoming a veterinarian.  I plan on giving back to my community.”

3.92My name is James Brand. I am from Omaha, Nebraska. I am an Oglala Sioux Tribal member and my family is from Porcupine, S.D. on the Pine Ridge Reservation. I graduated high school in 1987 and have been out of school for many years. I was adopted by a Caucasian family as an infant and knew little of my ancestry until the last three years. Finding this information has giving me a calling to help the Native community in any way I can, especially through human service work. I am attending Metro Community College in Omaha, Neb. I am pursing an associate degree in Human Services. I am currently in my seventh quarter of study, with a 3.92 GPA and will graduate in the spring of 2019. Upon completing my degree at Metro Community College, I play on pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Oglala Lakota College at the Pine Ridge Reservation. I believe this will help me pursue my occupational goals while continuing to learn about the Tribe that I am proudly a member. At that point, I will pursue my master’s degree to aid the pursuit of my occupational goals. My long-term goal is to return to the Pine Ridge Reservation and be a practicing social worker.
